my reading on aapl

lots of rumors and speculation about what aapl may address tomorrow in a conference call regarding the iphone 4, which aapl has sold about 2 millions unit since the recent launch.

since consumer reports suggested that people not buy the iphone 4 due to faulty phone call reception, the shares have fallen some $12 this week.

today, toni sacconaghi, an analyst from sanford bernstein calculated that a iphone 4 recall will cost aapl $1.5 billion or about 3.5% of aapl's free cash flow.
this is based on 6 million units at $250 a piece.
i guess sacconaghi thinks all will return the iphone 4, get the $250 and either never buy another one or wait for it to be fixed.

a little about toni sacconaghi. he was named a top analyst back in 2002 by fortune magazine.
since and more specifically relating to aapl, he has been a bear. as recently as 7/22/2009, he had a target of 165 on aapl with shares at the time of 156.74
he never had a buy rating on aapl, only an outperform for years and currently ranks 7 for performance under the bloomberg professional service analyst ranking system.
7 out of the 10 aapl analysts bloomberg professional tracks.

aapl is at 248.67 as i write this
3-0 buy
1-0 buy weekly
9-3 sell monthly
